Don’t you just hate it when you like a musician or a band then once ONE of their songs hits the radio and becomes popular, everybody you know instantly becomes a fan too?? So do I. I do the leg work (or finger work on the keyboard) to find these awesomely undiscovered talented people then a few months down the road you hear so and so and lunch casually say, “Hey, you know that new song Be Somebody by that new band….I love it.” Secretly, I’m screaming in my head “UGH NO!! Number one, the song isn’t new, its off their old album. Number two, the band is not new either.”
I love technology, don’t get me wrong. But, and this is the future psychologist in me speaking, why do so many people buy into just what the media gives us? There’s so much more out there!!! I promise!! Your local Kiss FM station can only supply so much of the same old pop. Instead I propose a challenge to all of you brave music lovers out there discovering an uncharted territory of musical goodness a la Louis and Clark; head on over to iTunes or just scour the waves of Pandora Radio til you find something that tickles your ear buds. It always goes down smooth when you find it yourself.
The next time you find something as ravishing as Muse, Kings of Leon, White Denim, or Young the Giant, use that technology to your advantage!! Alert your facebook friends, tell the world via tweeting, blog your findings or just gab to all your friends! Two things could happen; 1) Your friends will all be insanely jealous of your musical magnitude and far-reaching abilities to scope out future Grammy noms, and in turn, thank you repeatedly for opening their eyes to the unknown truth that is your vast cornicopia of tune-age that you call you ipod, or 2) Your friends will give you a stink-eye like look and go back to their turkey sandwich, at which time you will proceed to tweet, message, blog to all your new friends that you are now free this weekend and would love to go to the Civil Wars concert, thanks for asking!!
